What is the difference between wall sandwich panels and roofing panels?

09Apr

In our time, it is impossible to imagine the construction process without effective and practical materials. Sandwich panels are widely used for the construction of buildings due to their high thermal insulation, ease of installation and strength. Depending on the purpose, there are wall sandwich panels and roof sandwich panels, which have their own design and application features.

Main design differences

The main difference between wall sandwich panels and roof panels is their structure and bearing capacity. Wall panels are designed for vertical installation and serve as external or internal partitions. Their surface can be smooth or profiled, and the thickness varies depending on the required thermal insulation and the height of the building.

Roof panels are designed taking into account the loads that arise due to precipitation, wind and roof operation. They have a reinforced profile and, as a rule, a greater thickness of the outer metal layer to increase strength. Both types of panels consist of three layers: outer and inner metal coating, as well as insulation between them. However, the density and structure of the filler may vary depending on the purpose.

Differences in characteristics and applications

The choice between wall and roof panels depends on the operating conditions and requirements of the building. Let’s consider the main differences:

  • Bearing capacity. Roof sandwich panels have increased strength, which allows them to withstand loads from snow, rain and possible roof maintenance. Wall panels, in turn, are designed for vertical loads and have less rigidity.
  • Profiling. Roof panels always have a corrugated surface, which increases their rigidity, while wall panels can be both smooth and profiled.
  • Metal thickness. In roof panels, the outer metal layer, as a rule, is thicker than in wall panels, which increases their resistance to mechanical stress.
  • Waterproofing. Roof sandwich panels have special locking joints that prevent leaks, which is especially important for roofing. Wall panels also have sealing systems, but they differ in design.
  • Inclination. Roof panels are installed with a slope to ensure the removal of precipitation, while wall panels are mounted vertically or at a slight angle.

When choosing between roof sandwich panels and wall panels, it is important to take into account not only the design features, but also the operating conditions. Both types of materials have high performance characteristics, which makes them in demand in modern construction.
