Corrugated sheeting or sandwich panel – what to choose?

14May

When building prefabricated facilities, warehouses, hangars and other industrial structures, the question often arises: what to use for enclosing structures – corrugated sheeting or sandwich panels? Both materials are popular, but differ in characteristics, purpose and cost. The right choice depends on the thermal insulation requirements, budget and specifics of the project.

Material Comparison: Advantages and Limitations

Corrugated sheeting is a galvanized metal sheet with a profiled surface that gives rigidity. It is widely applied to roofing, wall cladding, and fencing. The main advantages of the material are lightness, high strength and affordable price. However, corrugated sheeting itself does not provide heat and sound insulation, which requires additional insulation when used as a wall material.

Sandwich panels consist of two cladding sheets and internal insulation, which makes them a ready-made solution for construction. They have good thermal insulation characteristics, are resistant to external influences and allow you to reduce the installation time. The panels do not require additional layers of insulation, which makes the structure compact and energy efficient.

Features of choice

When choosing the best option between these two materials, you should take into account the tasks of construction, operating conditions and requirements for functionality. Main criteria:

  • Thermal insulation. Sandwich panels provide high thermal insulation due to the built-in insulation layer. Corrugated sheeting requires additional layers of insulation materials, which increases labor costs.
  • Speed of installation. The panels allow you to reduce the time due to the modular structure. Corrugated sheeting is installed faster, but if there is insulation, the process becomes more complicated.
  • Cost. Corrugated sheeting is cheaper on its own, but the total cost of the structure with insulation can be comparable or higher than when using sandwich panels.
  • Strength. Both materials have good strength indicators, but the panels have additional rigidity due to the multi-layer structure.

You should also pay attention to aesthetics. Sandwich panels are often characterized by a neater appearance and a variety of finishes, while corrugated sheeting is limited in design capabilities.

In general, both materials are worthy of attention, but the best choice depends on the specific tasks of the project. It is important to take into account not only the initial cost, but also the operational characteristics of the future building.
