How to calculate fasteners for sandwich panels

09Apr

Correct calculation of fasteners is a key stage of installation, which directly affects the durability and stability of the structure. Self-tapping screws provide fixation of panels, protecting the building from unfavorable weather conditions and mechanical damage. In this article we will understand the basic rules for calculating fasteners to install the panels as reliably as possible.

Rules for calculating fasteners for sandwich panels

Before starting calculations, it is important to take into account several factors. Among them:

The thickness of the sandwich panel. The thicker the panel, the more fasteners will be required for its reliable fixation.

Type of panel. Wall and roof panels require a different number of fasteners due to the peculiarities of installation.

Climatic conditions. In regions with strong wind loads, additional panel reinforcement may be required.

Base material. Different materials require different types of fasteners: wood, steel or concrete surfaces affect the choice and number of screws.

To calculate the standard norms that recommend using 5-6 self-tapping screws per square meter of sandwich panel. It should be taken into account that the edge of the panel and butt joints have more fasteners than the middle part.

Conventionally, we can distinguish the following stages of fastener calculation:

Determine the area of the panel. Find out the total area of each panel in square meters.

Calculation of self-tapping screws per square meter. For most panels use 5 self-tapping screws per square meter, but in some cases this number can increase to 6-7, depending on climatic conditions.

Additional reinforcement. Pay attention to the places of joints of panels and corners of the building, where reinforced fasteners may be required.

For an accurate calculation of self-tapping screws should take into account the size of the building and the type of panels. For example, to install 100 square meters of wall panels will require about 500-600 self-tapping screws. In the case of roofing panels, this figure may be higher, as the roof experiences increased loads from precipitation and wind. When calculating, it is also important to take into account the recommendations of the material manufacturer.

Which is Better for Slopes: Plasterboard or Sandwich Panel

When choosing materials for finishing window openings, the combination of strength, aesthetics, and thermal insulation plays an important role. This is especially true for slopes (window/door reveals), where it’s crucial to ensure long-lasting protection of the structure from moisture, cold, and mechanical damage. In modern construction, two solutions have gained the most popularity – plasterboard […]
