How to Replace a Single Sandwich Panel

16Jul

Damage to a panel in an already assembled structure can compromise airtightness, affect thermal insulation properties, and even lead to corrosion of load-bearing elements. In such cases, targeted replacement of the damaged element is necessary. This allows for the restoration of the structure’s functionality without dismantling the entire cladding. This task is especially relevant for facilities in Tashkent, where temperature fluctuations and a dusty environment accelerate the wear and tear of external finishes.

Why Sandwich Panels Need Replacement

Sandwich panels are wall panels consisting of two facing sheets and a thermal insulation layer between them. Mechanical damage compromises the protection of the inner layer, which can lead to reduced energy efficiency and deterioration of the building’s appearance. Replacement of a single panel is required in case of deformation, sagging, punctures, as well as after errors made during installation.

Furthermore, in some cases, a damaged panel begins to let in moisture, leading to mold formation inside the wall or under the roof. It is important not to delay restoration to prevent the spread of defects to adjacent elements.

Dismantling Sandwich Panels

Before replacement, the damaged section is dismantled. Work begins with disconnecting fasteners and removing decorative overlays, if any. Then, the panel is carefully removed from the interlocking joint, taking care not to damage adjacent sheets or guides.

If the installation of wall sandwich panels or roof sandwich panels was done with sealant or foam, it will be necessary to remove residual materials and clean the surface. After that, you can proceed with the installation of the new panel.

Replacing a Dented Sandwich Panel

When a section of a wall or roof is damaged, the work is carried out according to the following scheme:

  • Preparation of the replacement area: assessment of the extent of damage, selection of suitable material.
  • Dismantling: careful removal of fasteners, sealant removal, and panel dismantling.
  • Installation of a new panel: inserting the new element into the lock, leveling it.
  • Fastening: fixing it in its previous places using appropriate fasteners.
  • Joint treatment: sealing, restoration of the decorative layer, or finishing as needed.

After installing the new panel, it is necessary to ensure the reliability of the fasteners and the tightness of the seams. With proper installation, the element becomes part of the overall structure and provides all the required characteristics.

How to Properly Repair a Sandwich Panel

In situations where replacement is impossible or the damage is minor, local repair of sandwich panels is performed. This is possible if the interlocking joints are preserved and there is no internal deformation of the insulation.

Repair recommendations:

  • Use sealant resistant to UV radiation and precipitation.
  • For punctures – apply a patch made of a similar metal sheet.
  • For delamination – use adhesive compounds to restore the layer.
  • Do not use mounting foam for fixing sandwich elements.
  • Check the integrity of the insulation inside the panel.

Repair is permissible only on flat sections without severe bends. In other cases, complete replacement is the optimal measure. It is important to consider the type of structure – be it a wall, roof, or technical partition.

Timely replacement or repair of a panel allows maintaining the aesthetics and functionality of the entire cladding. It is crucial to use certified building material that corresponds to the loads and operating conditions. Reliable sandwich panel cladding extends the service life of the object and preserves the decorative appearance of walls or roofs. Depending on the building’s purpose and climatic conditions, both the type of panels (e.g., roof sandwich panels) and their installation method are selected. And proper fastening and precise installation ensure that the damaged element does not become a weak point of the entire structure.

We would like to add that if you choose to clad your walls or roof with panels from our production, you receive an optimal balance of price and quality.
