Sandwich panels or aerated concrete: which is better for construction

14May

When choosing a material for the construction of walls, developers often compare sandwich panels and aerated concrete. Both options are widely used in modern construction, but differ significantly in structure, installation technology and operational characteristics. To make the right decision, it is important to consider the requirements of the project, climatic conditions and the expected load on the building.

Differences in design and installation technology

Aerated concrete is a lightweight cellular concrete obtained by introducing pore formers into the composition. It is characterized by good thermal insulation properties, lightness and ease of processing. The material is supplied in the form of blocks, which are laid on a special glue. Despite the ease of installation, the process requires precise geometry and high-quality waterproofing.

Sandwich panels are a multi-layer structure with internal insulation enclosed between two sheets of metal. The panels are manufactured in the factory and delivered ready for installation. Installation is fast and does not depend on weather conditions, as it does not require wet processes.

Advantages and disadvantages

Both materials have their advantages, so the choice depends on the specific goals. Advantages of aerated concrete:

  • High vapor permeability, which allows the walls to “breathe”.
  • Resistance to biological influences and fire.
  • Easy to use: easy to cut, drill, chase.

Advantages of sandwich panels:

  • Minimum construction time thanks to large-format modules.
  • High thermal insulation with a small wall thickness.
  • Aesthetic appearance without the need for additional finishing.

Having information about the advantages of each of the materials, you can easily choose the best option for a particular object. Before choosing, it is recommended to consider the following factors:

  • Pace of construction. Sandwich panels allow you to quickly erect buildings, including in winter. Aerated concrete requires compliance with the temperature regime and can increase the duration of work.
  • Functionality of the object. For industrial buildings and warehouses, the panels are better suited, as they provide tightness and ease of maintenance. Aerated concrete is more often used in residential construction.
  • Finishing. The panels do not require plastering, which reduces costs. Aerated concrete needs additional protection from moisture and façade finishing.
  • Weight of the structure. The panels are lighter with equal thermal insulation characteristics, which reduces the load on the foundation.

Thus, both aerated concrete and sandwich panels have the right to be used, but they are effective in different situations. If fast assembly, high energy efficiency and no finishing work are required, panels are preferable. In the case when vapor permeability and the possibility of flexible internal planning are important, it is worth paying attention to aerated concrete.

Why is it important to consider the design of sandwich panels when installing equipment?

Modern sandwich panel buildings are lightweight, durable and highly energy efficient, but a special approach is required when installing external equipment. The design of the panels is a three-layer system consisting of metal sheets and insulation inside, which provides strength and thermal insulation, but requires care during mechanical action. If you are planning to buy […]
