Types of locks of roof and wall sandwich panels

09Apr

In the construction of prefabricated buildings, one of the key factors affecting the durability and operational characteristics of the structure is the method of connecting the elements. In this article, we will talk about the types of such elements used to connect roof and wall sandwich panels – locks. Manufacturers offer several types of locks, each of which has its own characteristics and is used in different situations.

Main types of lock joints

There are different ways of connecting sandwich panels, which are used depending on the type of structure and operating conditions. According to these criteria, the following types of locks are distinguished:

  • Standard for butt joint. It is the simplest and most common option, in which the panels fit tightly to each other, and the joint is sealed with a special seal.
  • Labyrinth. Due to the complex shape of the joint, moisture penetration and wind blowing are excluded. Panels with such a lock are often used in regions with harsh climatic conditions, as they provide increased thermal insulation.
  • Hidden. It allows the panels to be mounted without visible fasteners, which improves the aesthetic characteristics of the building. In addition, this type of connection increases tightness and protects fasteners from corrosion.
  • Tongue and groove lock. It is used in wall structures and provides a tight connection of panels, minimizing heat loss. This option is well suited for heated rooms, as it promotes energy efficiency.
  • Modular lock. It is used mainly in roof sandwich panels. Its design takes into account the need for additional protection from precipitation and wind loads, which makes panels with such a connection optimal for roofs.

A well-chosen type of sandwich panel connection provides reliable fixation of structural elements, protection against heat loss, resistance to weather effects and a long service life without the need for frequent repairs. In addition, the convenience of installation depends on the accuracy of the choice, which allows you to reduce the construction time.

The choice of sandwich panel locks plays an important role in ensuring the reliability and durability of the structure. Wall and roof panels are equipped with different types of connections, each of which has its own advantages. A labyrinth lock provides maximum protection from the cold, a hidden one improves the appearance of facades, and a modular one is suitable for roof coverings.
